Idol worship for charity

IT'S been a while since singer Anthony Callea was in primary school, but he was happy to join the Chatham Primary School choir for a special performance, all in the name of charity. The Surrey Hills students performed at the Ronald McDonald House Valentine Breakfast with proceeds going to support the Monash and Parkville houses. The charity provides a bed for more than 45,000 nightly guests each year while their child receives hospital care.
“That’s 45,000 nights that [parents] would otherwise have spent sleeping in the wards at the hospitals, staying in expensive hotels, travelling long distances each day, or worse, sleeping in the car just to be close to a child,” says Jennifer North, executive officer of Ronald McDonald House Monash.

Dueting It For The Kids

Stars of the Australian music industry are set to shine in aid of The Australian Children’s Music Foundation
 
Dueting it for the Kids is a unique concert unlike anything else staged in Australia. This event brings together the cream of the recording and concert industry – both legends and newcomers – in a concert of duets with proceeds going to The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF).

The concert is being held at the State Theatre on Monday 22nd August. The line-up is phenomenal with performances from artists including Anthony Callea, Marina Prior, John Waters, Caroline O’Connor, Jessica Mauboy, Lee Kernaghan, Diesel, Antoinette Halloran, Catherine Britt, Danielle Spencer, Dave Faulkner, Debra Byrne, Doug Parkinson, Leo Sayer, Murray Cook, Peter Northcote, Ross Wilson, Steve Balbi, Don Spencer, Steve Kilbey, Tim Freedman, Wendy Matthews and Glenn Shorrock, with more to be announced.

All funds raised  go towards music programs that the ACMF run for disadvantaged and Indigenous youth across Australia.

A Gift From Anthony

Yesterday's Fundraiser for Flood Relief was a  great success, with an estimated $2 Million raised .

Recognising that short notice made attendance impossible for many fans, Anthony Callea has generously recorded and uploaded a snippet of the day for
everyone to enjoy.

Anthony Rallies For Flood Support

With three quarters of the state of Queensland ravaged by food waters, and with rains now causing flooding in varying degrees in every other state, fundraisng efforts are now underway to help those who have lost so much begin the task of rebuilding their lives.

Always one to help where he can, Anthony Callea will be performing this Sunday at Tennis Australia's  Rally For Relief , to be held at Melbourne Park in conjunction with the Australian Open.

His message to his supporters on his official forum, confirming the news is as follows.

As we all know the floods across Australia have been devastating and everyone is trying to do what they can to help out.

You may have heard that this Sunday, Rally for Relief will be held at Melbourne Park featuring many of the tennis players about to play in the Australian Open.

This has all come about quite quickly but I wanted to let you know first that I too will be involved on the day performing outside at Garden Square at 1pm.

Layla To Shine

Brighton East youngster Layla Bodnar will be in experienced hands next week for her starring role in the Carols by Candlelight at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Layla, 5, who has just been named the face of the event by Vision Australia, will be joined by singer Anthony Callea, who has been made official ambassador.

Just six weeks old when diagnosed with a serious eye condition, Layla remains an inspiration, say her parents Max and Konji.

As for Callea, it is the second time he will be the show's ambassador and the sixth time he has performed at the much-loved event.

"I couldn't imagine spending Christmas Eve any other way," he said.

"In the role of ambassador I've been lucky enough to meet some fantastic kids and their families who are achieving remarkable things despite being blind or having low vision.

"Their stories have inspired me and it will make this year's performance a lot more meaningful for me."

Layla wins a heart

The rain did little to dampen the spirits of five-year-old Layla Bodnar, the face of Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight this year, who stole the hearts of viewers watching the Official Launch of the 2009 Carols By Candlelight on Channel Nine's TODAY show.

Layla certainly made an impression on Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight Ambassador Anthony Callea, who visited Layla and her family recently to see how the event helps to provide services for children like Layla.

Anthony is a huge fan of the event - he is always a popular performer at the iconic event and took on the role of Ambassador two years ago. He explained to weather presenter Shura Tuft that the event was special to him and he gets "goosebumps" as a performer.

Carols Launch

Anthony fans, it's that time of year again - time to get in the festive mood and join Vision Australia for the official launch of their flagship fundraising event, Carols by Candlelight.

As the official countdown to Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight begins, the Today Show's weather presenter will broadcast live from City Square and play host to some of the entertainers performing this year, including Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight ambassador Anthony Callea, Ricki-Lee Coulter and musical guru John Foreman.

If you are not in Melbourne, fear not, you can tune into the fun on Channel 9's TODAY show from 6am.

Anthony confirmed for Rob Guest Charity Event

Anthony Callea was confirmed as one of the Special Guest Peformers for the Rob Guest Endowment Concert, to be held Monday October 12.

Also announced as appearing are hosts Bert Newton and Marina Prior, stage veteran Rhonda Burchmore, Caroline O'Connor and cast members from the hit show Chicago and Lucy Durack with cast members from the smash hit Wicked, the show in which Callea, Durack and Guest were co-stars before Guest's sudden death.
