Layla To Shine
Brighton East youngster Layla Bodnar will be in experienced hands next week for her starring role in the Carols by Candlelight at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Layla, 5, who has just been named the face of the event by Vision Australia, will be joined by singer Anthony Callea, who has been made official ambassador.
Just six weeks old when diagnosed with a serious eye condition, Layla remains an inspiration, say her parents Max and Konji.
As for Callea, it is the second time he will be the show's ambassador and the sixth time he has performed at the much-loved event.
"I couldn't imagine spending Christmas Eve any other way," he said.
"In the role of ambassador I've been lucky enough to meet some fantastic kids and their families who are achieving remarkable things despite being blind or having low vision.
"Their stories have inspired me and it will make this year's performance a lot more meaningful for me."

Layla wins a heart
The rain did little to dampen the spirits of five-year-old Layla Bodnar, the face of Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight this year, who stole the hearts of viewers watching the Official Launch of the 2009 Carols By Candlelight on Channel Nine's TODAY show.
Layla certainly made an impression on Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight Ambassador Anthony Callea, who visited Layla and her family recently to see how the event helps to provide services for children like Layla.
Anthony is a huge fan of the event - he is always a popular performer at the iconic event and took on the role of Ambassador two years ago. He explained to weather presenter Shura Tuft that the event was special to him and he gets "goosebumps" as a performer.

At work on album 3
Big voiced Australian singer Anthony Callea is off to Sydney again this week on another songwriting excursion.
Reports from various sources indicate that the last trip produced some very exciting tunes with international songwriters and producers extremely impressed with the singers voice and song writing ability.
Anthony has collaborated with various people while working on album 3, including Brian Mc Fadden, Stuart Crichton (Kylie Minogue) Robert Connelly (Darren Hayes) and award winning songwriter Barbara Griffin, who, when talking about Callea stated 'you know you're working with a great singer when they throw down a rough demo of a brand new song and it already sounds like a record.'

Tweet this!
Powerhouse singer Anthony Callea must be shaking his head in amusement after Tweets from his twitter account hit the news.
First, the excellent music blog AuspOp misinterpeted a tweet to friend James Ash of Rogue Traders fame about wife Melinda Ash (currently working with Anthony on his third album) as an inadvertant slip of the group's new singer, while the Daily Telegraph printed one of his tweets in it's Sydney Confidental page.
Considering the subject matter of the second tweet, we're wondering just what Anthony's payback to partner Tim Campbell will be!

Not to be outdone by their Sydneyside competitors, Melbourne Confidential also mentions him in their 'Out and About' column today as spotted on the weekend dining at the Arintji Restaurant in Federation Square!

Callea better than Susan Boyle
Radio personality and former Australian Idol judge Mark Holden refuses to buy into the whole Susan Boyle phenomenon ...he says he's seen better!
The 3 x Logie winner, an award winning singer and musical theatre star, believes that Anthony Callea's perfomance of The Prayer on Australian Idol in 2004 is 'measurably better ' than Susan's Britain's Got Talent performance .
Then just 21, Callea's performance stunned audience and judges alike and when recorded, went on to become the highest selling single ever by an Australian Artist.
